Breast Diagnostic Tests

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT)

Tomosynthesis is the process of using digital x-ray technology to create a three dimensional (3D) view of the breast. With DBT, one can scroll through the breast tissue without any tissue overlap (unlike the 2D imaging of conventional mammography).

This technique is used if you require further mammography imaging of your breast to highlight a specific area. It provides the Radiologist with more information about the breast by using this 3D technology.

What to expect?

Tomosynthesis is similar to a normal mammogram in that you will be positioned in front of an x-ray machine and your breast will be compressed between two plates. However, the difference with this examination is that the x-ray arm of the machine will move over the breast in an arc taking several images at different angles.

You can return to your normal activities immediately after the test.
