Mr Hisham Hamed MB BCh PhD FRCS

Mr Hisham Hamed is a consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital and Lead Breast Surgeon at the University Hospital Lewisham. He is also a Senior Lecturer at GKT school of medicine, University of London.

Mr Hamed graduated from Cairo University and received his postgraduate surgical training in the UK. He had his Breast surgical training at the prestigious and world renowned academic Breast unit at Guy’s hospital. He was appointed as a Consultant there and joined a multidisciplinary team of highly specialised oncologist delivering modern, world class and personalised patient’s centred care.

Mr Hamed is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of various Breast societies. He was awarded his doctorate degree in the field of Breast diseases from the University of London. In addition he has many publications in the field. He maintains his knowledge and expertise through involvement in active research programs, lecturing in conferences and setting on advisory committees.

Mr Hamed possesses over 30 years of experience treating all aspects of Breast diseases, benign and malignant both in women and men. He has special interest in Breast cancer prevention, reconstructive / oncoplastic breast cancer surgery and familial / inheritable breast cancer. He developed, along with a specialised team, a unique multidisciplinary service for women with raised breast cancer risk and gene carriers.

Mr Hamed runs One Stop Breast clinic supported by specialised radiologists, pathologist and Breast Care Nurses; delivering a rapid diagnosis and treatment plans.

Mr Hamed speaks both English and Arabic fluently.


Mr Anil Desai is a Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon of 16 years. He graduated from the MS University of Baroda in India before embarking on a surgical career in the UK.

He has 25 years of experience in breast surgery and acquired his specialist training within the North West London training program in reputable hospitals including The Royal Marsden and Charing Cross Hospitals. He obtained an MPhil from the University of London for his molecular research on a variant oestrogen receptor. His passion is oncoplastic surgery and breast reconstruction. He has performed more than a thousand oncoplastic and reconstructive procedures on the breast.

He is the Quality Assurance Lead Surgeon for the entire London Breast Screening Program and part of a national working group on developing guidelines on indeterminate breast lesions. He reviews publications on implant based breast reconstruction and also practices as an aesthetic breast surgeon.

Mr Nicolas Beechey-Newman MBBS BSc FRCS MS

Mr Beechey-Newman now only sees patients privately. Previously he was a Consultant Surgeon to the Breast Unit at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals between 1998 and 2009. He left to become the Clinical Director of the Harley Street Breast Clinic and to devote more time to his private patients at the London Bridge Hospital. He specialises exclusively in breast disorders, including breast cancer, breast reconstructive surgery and all aspects of benign breast problems, including nipple discharge and breast pain.

He was one of the first surgeons in the UK to perform sentinel node biopsy after visiting Dr Armando Giuliano who first described the technique.

Nicolas also pioneered breast duct micro-endoscopy in Europe. He has researched and written extensively on these two subjects the latter being the subject of more than 2,000 media articles. He has published the only study in the world literature to look at the problem of breast cancer in very young women (less than 25 years of age).

In 2003 Nicolas set up London’s first one-stop breast diagnostic clinic at the London Bridge Hospital. He now runs similar one-stop clinics at The Lister Hospital and at The Harley Street Breast Clinic.

Mr Tibor Kovacs PhD, FRCS , EBSQ Surgical Oncology

Mr Kovacs received his training in breast cancer surgery and surgical oncology at the National Institute of Oncology from Budapest. He proceeded in further training in breast reconstruction and oncoplasticMr Tibor Kovacsmentorship at South Manchester University Hospitals and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital Breast Units.

Between 2005 and 2010 Mr Kovacs was Consultant and Lead Clinician at Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales. During this time he developed and established a new breast reconstructive service and promoted innovative techniques in breast cancer management. During these years he achieved excellent clinical outcomes and high patient satisfaction by establishing the Sentinel Node Biopsy technique and offering immediate and delayed reconstructive options (implant based and LD flap reconstructions) for his patients.

He has recently moved to Guy’s and St. Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust where he is a Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic surgeon providing care for patients with symptomatic breast problems and screen detected breast malignancies.

In his private practice Mr Kovacs is offering specialist consultation for women or men with breast symptoms providing advice and treatment for all breast problems as well as a routine breast screening service.

Mr Kovacs’ ethos and goal is to offer individually tailored care for his patients taking into consideration their needs and personal choice.

Mr Kovacs believes in the evidence-based approach to breast cancer management, focusing on principles of surgical oncology and oncoplastic surgery, where cosmetics are same as important as the efficient treatment of disease.
